Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: UnTapped Grape Mapleaid Hydration

Review: UnTapped Grape Mapleaid Hydration

Recently introduced by UnTapped, Grape Mapleaid liquid drink mix adds options for those exploring delicious endurance replenishment. Clean ingredients, great-tasting, and packed with workout fuel, UnTapped Grape Mapleaid hydration should be added to the flavor rotation.

Throughout my cycling career, I’ve searched for foods that encourage me to use. It’s a huge bonus if the nutrition is clean with ingredients that can be pronounced in a single pass. This isn’t rocket science, nor am I a rocket scientist. Ingredients like organic maple syrup are easier to understand than dextrose or potassium sorbate. UnTapped has delivered in a market of natural foods with clean ingredients. Grape Mapleaid liquid drink mix consists of organic Vermont maple syrup, organic grape juice, and organic sea salt. Meanwhile competing companies include around ten ingredients for their powder drink mixes.

I had the chance to sample Grape Mapleaid hydration across several warm spring rides. UnTapped has done away with powders, pivoting to liquid mix. These liquid sticks are easy to store in a jersey pocket for convenient deployment at rest stops. It is the first hydration by UnTapped that turns water purple and brown, no doubt from the natural grape and maple syrup influences. The initial taste is extremely light and easy to take. Its simplicity means a high likelihood of maintaining a hydration regimen. Per hour, the water bottle with liquid drink mix was consumed and a surge of satisfaction at having hydrated properly was maintained.

The flavor, though subtle, is nostalgic. The flavors combined the sweetness of organic grape juice with the satisfying coverage of maple syrup. Or, to put it simply-- UnTapped Grape Mapleaid reminded us of grape lollipops with the savory syrup to complement. It felt like being a kid again, and it was no surprise the bottle was successfully consumed regularly. UnTapped encourages consumption.

As stated in our UnTapped Lime Mapleaid hydration review, the liquid drink mix combines hydration with successful nutrition. Each stick is 80 calories, providing just enough fuel to allow room for solid food. It also packs 300mg of salt, just a pinch, to aid in water retention. It possesses carbohydrates to keep the effort going while having small amounts of vitamins and minerals often omitted from synthetic powders and gels. Mapleaid hydration is the clean way to provide nutrition to the active body.

UnTapped Grape Mapleaid hydration liquid drink mix is now one of five flavors to help in providing variety in training hydration. Three ingredients packing a nostalgic flavor as well as important workout fuel, UnTapped Grape Mapleaid hydration can carry endurance athletes even farther for the next season.
