Known for riding off the front of group rides only to be caught in the first mile, we got back on a road bike and realized he must win the Donut Derby at least once in his life. Regularly pledging we’re "not climbers," we can be found as a regular attendee of Trexlertown's Thursday Night Training Criterium or sitting on the couch watching Paris-Roubaix reruns. We have been constant riders of the Hell of Hunterdon in New Jersey and raced the Tour of the Battenkill.

Review: Perfect Day Coffee Bali Blue Moon Dark Roast

Review: Perfect Day Coffee Bali Blue Moon Dark Roast

(2019) Gourmet coffee roasting has added a whole new dimension to consuming the morning – and sometimes afternoon – cup of turbo. It was my understanding my parents consumed coffee for its revving effects; not so much for its outstanding flavor. Such an approach would be acceptable if there was no basis of comparison. As it stands, our area has another quality organic roaster, this time out of Frenchtown, NJ.

To have the world ‘Perfect’ in a company name is to set the standard high. We have gone on ‘perfect’ rides only to pull back the comment in reservation for any future usage. Perfect Day Coffee is not saying the coffee is perfect; it is only saying the day will be once consuming their beans. We say fair enough and we gave them a try. We had to wait a few hours for the effects to wear off before we could sit down and write out review.

Perfect Day Coffee Bali Blue Moon dark roast comes in a compostable brown paper coffee bag that gives off an inviting aroma. This stuff smells intense. Each squeeze of the bag had us inhaling more and more, building excitement for the brew process. Once the bag was opened, it was like the beginnings of a perfect day were set in motion. Scoop, grind, brew. Not bad. Not bad.

What filled the cup was viscous dark stuff that was neither over the top with flavor, nor one-dimensional. Perfect Day Coffee describes Bali Blue Moon as having “…overwhelming chocolate flavors, black licorice, pepper, and deep rich syrupy body.” Truthfully the description of overwhelming chocolate is what piqued our interest but sadly that was the flavor least prominent. Happily the black licorice commanded the brew followed by the peppery profile. The syrupy body shone through toward the end to prevent any imbalance of flavors. Over time the chocolate flavors took flight, but it took a while to get there. The cup was flavorful and fulfilling.

Then there is the second purpose of coffee. We will come out and say we love dark roast flavors but sometimes we need a supersonic jet engine to get from the beginning of a perfect day to the end. Sometimes we coast home on fumes while other times we fire right past the finish line and get to sleep sometime before the alarm goes off. Perfect Day Coffee’s Bali Blue Moon certainly gives one heck of a jolt. Not only were we revved up shortly after having the third cup, we swore we could feel the black stuff pulsing in the veins and arteries in our arms and hands. This led to the imperative that we do something – anything – other than staying still. We had the flavor profile with the dynamite. This is what we came here for.

Perfect Day Coffee started our perfect morning with a tasty cup of coffee. We found ourselves thinking about Bali Blue Moon and making a case for having it mid-day or beyond. We concluded the jolt might be a bit too much and alter our evening. Unless they come out with Perfect Night Coffee, we will keep Perfect Day Coffee right where it is on our schedule. Don’t be too surprised if you see tire marks from our morning ride departure where we did burn outs from the residual jolt. That would beyond a Perfect Day.
