Review: Backyard Beans’ Nitro Punch in the Face
(2019) In case you want to know what it sounds like when an opponent gets socked in the face in hockey, throw a bouncy ball against a concrete wall. That quick squeegee sound is the dreaded, “Pow! Right in the kisser” audible. When playing hockey a hit and sound like that usually meant the receiving player went right to the bench. It was of no shock if the player continued on down the tunnel and into the locker room for an assessment. Every team I played for had a no-fight clause so I can’t comment what it sounds like for a fist-to-face sound, nor do I want to hear it.
Sometimes a punch in the face is what is needed to rev up the day. After a busy week the office of the creakybottombracket.com ran out of coffee beans to grind up. It was not altogether panic stations due to the forecasted warm up for the weekend. There was excitement that sunshine and high temperatures were inbound for the long ride weekend. Why bother with hot coffee? Go look for nitro.
Near these parts there are several quality nitro coffees on tap. Whipping up cold brewed coffee and a charged keg with nitrogen can be the way to cool down while encouraging the engine within to run a little hotter. The problem with our rides of late is time constraints. Stopping at the fine tap handled establishments cut into riding time. A ten-minute stop could be a three-mile coverage if we continued on. But still, we need that caffeine jolt.
Look closely around the small businesses around Doylestown and one can find Backyard Beans products. A company from down the street in Landsdale, PA, Backyard Beans has taken their niche products and put it in a can. The best part is the can’s versatility. If cold brew coffee is all that is needed, just crack open the can. If nitro coffee is what is desired, shake the can and pour the contents into a pint glass for a creamy head and descending nitrogen bubbles. Enter the chocolately velvet experience that is a nitro coffee in a can.
This is exactly what was needed this past weekend after returning from the first warm ride of the year. A hot cuppa would have been endured only because of the caffeine grip but nitro coffee was sipped in the garage after rolling over the end point of the ride. It may feel heavy yet it is anything but. Try not to drink the can in under a minute because of its refreshing flavor and cool feel.
As the cycling season opens up imagine coming home from a hot ride feeling run down. Cracking open a Punch in the Face could smack one into thinking another lap the day’s route as a good idea. I guess a Punch in the Face isn’t always a negative thing.
Should you find yourself in the Bucks County region searching for Punch in the Face, Tabora Farms and Doylestown Food Market both sell it in cans. Zen Den coffee shop sells it on tap.
